Lesson Group 1: Medical Terminology, Part 1
Lesson Group 1: Medical Terminology, Part 1This course begins with a discussion of the structure and components of medical terms. You’ll learn how to spell, build, interpret, and pronounce common medical words using suffixes and prefixes. Then, you’ll start reviewing terms associated with blood and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, cardiovascular, and lymphatic body systems.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to do the following:
- Explain how to build, define, and analyze medical terms.
- Define terms and abbreviations associated with blood and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, cardiovascular, and lymphatic body systems.
Lesson Group 2: Medical Terminology, Part 2
Lesson Group 2: Medical Terminology, Part 2You’ll continue your review of terminology associated with the human body, namely the respiratory, nervous, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive systems. You’ll also study terms related to the ears, eyes, oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, and mental health.
By the end of this course, you'll be able to do the following:
- Define terms and abbreviations associated with blood and the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, digestive, cardiovascular, and lymphatic body systems.
- Identify terms related to oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, and mental health.
Program Description
The Medical Terminology certificate program is designed to provide you with the fundamental knowledge of medical terminology. You’ll spell, pronounce, build, and interpret terms related to different medical specialties and the human body and its various systems.
Program Objectives
After completing the Medical Terminology certificate program, students will be able to:
- Explain the basic principles of medical word building and describe the organization of the human body.
- Define and apply medical terminology associated with the integumentary, skeletal, and muscular systems.
- Describe and apply medical terminology associated with the digestive, cardiovascular, blood, and lymphatic systems.
- Describe the structure, components, and pathology of the respiratory and nervous systems.
- Explain the structure, components, and pathology of the urinary and endocrine systems as well as the diagnoses and treatments related to these systems.
- Examine the structure, components, and pathology of the eyes and ears of the human body.
- Describe the structure, components, and pathology of the male and female reproductive systems and the diagnoses and treatments related to these systems.
- Describe the basic diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, and imaging techniques associated with oncology, radiology, and nuclear medicine, and the symptoms, contributing factors, and diagnosis and treatment procedures for mental disorders.
