NORCROSS, Ga. - In a step to boost student engagement with their virtual educations, Ashworth College recently upgraded its learning management system (LMS) to Brightspace, a cloud-based software platform developed by educational software experts D2L.
The Brightspace platform features mobile-first design and simplifies students’ interactions with their coursework on every kind of digital device. It also complies with numerous security management standards to ensure personally identifiable information and data is secure.
“Our students are on-the-go, studying between work shifts, during breaks, and everywhere they get the chance,” said Melissa Maddox, director of student experience at Ashworth College. “The Brightspace LMS provides students with a new ‘My Course’ home page and an improved layout that makes it easier to follow along on any kind of device. It also makes it easier for students and teachers to communicate online. I’m excited to see how student engagement increases over time because of the transition.”
For the online college’s faculty and staff, the transition to Brightspace makes course content management significantly easier and provides tools for monitoring the progress of individual students and entire programs. Not only can teachers better identify students who need additional academic help, faculty can better identify entire courses that may need tweaking.
“Brightspace is a modern platform that integrates the latest digital technology. By choosing it as our LMS, we can offer students a smoother experience doing their coursework across multiple digital devices and accessing learning materials in a variety of formats,” said John Riser, senior director of institutional effectiveness at Ashworth College. “Brightspace provides a better experience for our faculty and staff, too,” Riser added. “It’s much easier now to manage academic content and we can use real-time analytics to monitor student success rates, courses, and entire departments. We can respond faster when adjustments need to be made to the content or when a student needs additional support.”
